Spotlight – Featured Guest: Wahine Koa (Woman Warrior)
August 5 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EDT
Step into your inherent power and rightful place, on the mat and in your life. The reemergence of the divine woman warrior archetype is here. Come as you are. Michelle will be presenting her art, the Hawaiian Combat Art of Lua.
Lua was concealed within the Hula dance when the Lua was banned from public display a little before 1830 (when Hula was banned). Today, Michelle converts the Hula into the Lua and shows where the Lua is concealed within the Hula Kumu
Participants will learn and move in both Ku (masculine/external/straight) and Hina (feminine/internal/waved) energies. This will include proper physical structure, and the cut-off of and cooperation of one’s upper and lower body. The Hawaiian Hula dance will be used to emulate animal and natural elements, which are converted into battlefield martial and self-defense movements. This class will prove that the “girls” activity of dance is actually an advantage as we accept our naturally Nalu (wave) movements that are surreptitiously devastating when mastered.
BRING: Water; journal if you wish to take notes.
WEAR: No jewelry or no loud jewelry. Bare feet. Sarong (optional).
