More than mani-pedi’s: how to NAIL a sustainable self-care routine

August 3 @ 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EDT

Self-care for violence prevention and self-defense educators isn’t a matter of remembering to occasionally pamper yourself with beauty treatments. Educators in the world of violence prevention give so much of themselves and find many rewards in the work. Yet over time, wear and tear on our bodies, minds, and hearts is a natural and predictable by-product of the work.

In this workshop, we will look at how a deep, ongoing self-care practice is deserving of the same level of commitment that we make to our martial arts and self-defense practices. This can help us become more aware of the dynamics that result in burnout and vicarious traumatization. We’ll connect that to boundaries with the work, with students, and colleagues, and explore the concepts of transference and countertransference as they apply in our classes. Suitable for practitioners and those supporting practitioners.
